Upgrading Server Software

We're updating our server software today so please be patient as we update the backend. Hopefully things will be back to normal shortly.

Universal to sell music online without copy protection

Vivendi's Universal Music Group, which is the worlds largest music label, said they would begin testing the sale of music with no copy-protection technology. UMG publishes music from top names such as Amy Winehouse, 50 Cent and the Black Eyed Peas and a few others that we're interested in. UMB will try this for a trial period.

"The experiment will run from August to January and analyze such factors as consumer demand, price sensitivity and piracy in regards to the availability of open MP3s," Universal said.

As for places that will sell the non-DRM tracks... don't look for them on iTunes! Yep, UMG has skipped iTunes completely and will instead run their trial through Wal-Mart, Amazon.com and Google. You'll still be able to play the music on the iPod since they are DRM free. Thats good news!

Apple Warehouse Buglary Thwarted

Two former Apple Inc. security guards, that were previously fired from their jobs attempted to break into an Apple Warehouse but were thwarted. Someone alerted Apple that the burglary was going to take place and so Police were waiting for the suspects.

Police caught the two men, Richard Mejia, 36 and Dominic Aguilar, 31 after they cut a hole in the fence that was around the Elk Grove Apple Warehouse. These idiots actually tried to run when confronted by the cops, but were tracked by Police dogs to a nearby creek. Needless to say, both were arrested.

Unfortunately, both were released on $5000 bail each and not charged. [via AP]

Apple Event may feature Wi-Fi iPods?

An Apple Special Event is scheduled for September 6 and may feature new iPod's based on Mac OS X that may sport Wi-FI Music.

MacDailyNews and 9to5Mac both had reports that suggest new iPods may be introduced that could download music and other content over the airwaves.

So far, rumor about a Fat-iPod nano is just that, a rumor. Photos of said Fat nano were claimed as fake or a mock up on John Gruber's The Talk Show, Episode 7 which can be found here.

Paul McCartney is scheduled to perform at the event. McCartney was scheduled to perform at the iPhone event but cancelled due to scheduling conflicts with his young daughter's school.

What other goodies might Apple have for us? We'll have to wait and See.
