Cisco owns the iPhone name but someone else once owned the Mac name
I sort of remember this, but back when the Macintosh was introduced there was a lawsuit regarding the use of the name MAC. The lawsuit of course was settled and the rest is history. Perhaps we'll see the same thing happen with the iPhone as well.
