Problem with SuperDuper and 10.4.8 on Intel Macs
Theres a problem with my favorite backup utility, SuperDuper and Intel Macs running 10.4.8.
According to this thread on the ShirtPocket forums SuperDuper will crash due to a bug in 10.4.8 on Intel:
"The problem seems to be with threaded access to window updates; our progress indicator is set to update on its own thread, and the "main thread" updates too. But Core Graphics -- which handles the low level updating -- looks to be having a new problem with locking, and crashes either the main thread or the progress indicator thread when there's contention..."
I've seen this bug rear it's ugly head myself on the MacPro Server I'm managing. I'm never around to actually see it crash but the crashlog gives a good description of whats going on... and SuperDuper does indeed crash!
The solution for now seems to be reverting back to Mac OSX 10.4.7 which really isn't an option for me since I had already upgraded to 10.4.8 before doing the initial backup!
Here's hoping they fix this problem soon so I can back up my stuff again!
