Apple Releases Updates

Security Update 2006-003 for Mac OS X 10.3.9 and Mac OS X 10.4.6 incorporates Security Update 2006-002 and addresses a bunch of additional vulnerabilities, including:

  • AppKit
  • ImageIO
  • BOM
  • CFNetwork
  • ClamAV
  • CoreFoundation
  • CoreGraphics
  • Finder
  • FTPServer
  • Flash Player
  • ImageIO
  • Keychain
  • LaunchServices
  • libcurl
  • Mail
  • MySQL Manager
  • Preview
  • QuickDraw
  • QuickTime Streaming Server
  • Ruby
  • Safari

Quicktime 7.1 has some bug fixes and improvements as well as nine security patches!

FrontRow 1.2.2 addresses the following:

  • Addresses bugs that prevented song shuffling within playlists

  • Front row no longer says the server was not found when its waiting for a large movie trailer or long shared video to load

  • Corrects bugs that prevented authorized Audible Audiobooks from playing

  • Fixes a variety of DVD compatibility issues

  • Purchased movies located in the Movies folder are now correctly recognized

  • Includes a variety of fixes for VoiceOver accessibility

  • Fixes a bug that prevented Front Row from reconnecting to shared video libraries after wake from sleep

I haven't updated yet but as a rule of thumb, I usually download these updates directly instead of relying on the Software Update download mechanism built into OSX. AND I always make a backup of my entire system using a utility like SuperDuper first just in case something in the update messes up. It pays to backup your stuff!
